As I worked on my first book: The LeaseSpeak™ System: Your Guide to Saving Money on Leases, I learned a lot about myself.

One big lesson is the answer to the question—-Where do I create the best work? The answer is Starbucks.

LifeStyle Lessons #1
My company office is too quiet.
My company office is too noisy.
Starbucks has the perfect noise level.

Chaos. Blenders crunching ice. Expresso machines steaming. Grumpy customers. An occasional screaming child. Starbucks is perfect for concentration. Starbucks is the ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) entrepreneur’s study hall.

Office coffee is too cold.
Office coffee is too hot.
Starbucks coffee is just right.

Predictable. The same every time.  Starbuck’s discovered a formula that works.  Best yet, I don’t have to grind the beans.

Music source at home is 2 rooms away.
Music at the office plays a CD at a time. CD changing creates concentration interruptus.

Starbucks music is always unpredictable. I need chaos to create!

Oldies from the 40’s and 50’s, Bing Crosby and Perry Como precede Nat King Cole, Edith Piaf and Ella Fitzgerald. Blues singers and instrumentals. Salsa numbers. I take it as it comes. I sing along in my corner. I like an unpredictable environment when writing.

My Starbucks cubicle is a time-share situation. I have the corner office with a window unless you are there. I will wait you out. I come to Starbucks for 8-10 hour stretches. Coffee is my middle name, my addiction.

Starbucks in not about coffee. You thought it was?

Starbucks is a destination. It’s a conference room. A free mobile WiFi connection for weary Road Warrior email. A smile & greeting for a discouraged sales person between appointments. A cozy place to create, write and concentrate.

Before readers rebel here, I apologize to all independent coffee shops. I support you too with my wallet.

I must mention one independent coffee entrepreneur who has been another creative partner in my journey to publish. My friend Habte, the owner of RevoCup in Overland Park, Kansas.

Habte specializes in single-origin coffees. He roasts coffee beans every other day. RevoCup is another home-away-from-home while writing. I will finish the next book, The LeaseSpeak™ Dictionary (still under construction) at Starbucks and RevoCup.

How has the Starbuck’s Phenomena changed your life?
